Full Description
I will meet you at your hotel in London or at Southampton Port and we will begin a full-day private tour through the countryside of southern England, visiting Salisbury, Stonehenge, and Bath.
Our first destination is Salisbury, a historic cathedral city with a peaceful atmosphere and a long medieval history.
The highlight of the city is Salisbury Cathedral, famous for its tall spire, one of the highest in England, and for housing one of the original copies of the Magna Carta.
As we walk through the town, I will explain the history of the cathedral, the development of medieval England, and the importance of this region in the story of the country.
We then continue to Stonehenge, one of the most famous prehistoric monuments in the world.
Built more than four thousand years ago, this mysterious stone circle still raises many questions about the people who created it and the purpose it once served.
During our visit I will explain the history, the archaeology, and the different theories connected with this remarkable site.
After Stonehenge, we travel to Bath, one of the most beautiful historic cities in Britain and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Bath is known for its Roman origins, elegant Georgian architecture, and its association with writers such as Jane Austen.
We will walk through the historic centre, see the Abbey, the Royal Crescent, and the famous streets built in the eighteenth century.
This is a long but rewarding day, offering a wide view of English history from prehistoric times to the classical age.
At the end of the tour we return to London or finish at Southampton depending on your travel plans.
