Full Description
I will meet you at your hotel in London or at Southampton Port and we will begin a full-day private tour through the English countryside visiting three of the most famous destinations in the country: Windsor, Stonehenge, and Bath.
Our first stop is Windsor Castle, the oldest and largest inhabited castle in the world and an official residence of the British monarch.
Here we explore the long history of the English royal family and learn how the castle has been used by kings and queens for nearly one thousand years.
We then continue west towards Stonehenge, one of the most famous prehistoric monuments in the world. Built over four thousand years ago, this stone circle remains one of the great mysteries of ancient Britain.
During our visit I will explain the history of the monument, the different theories about its purpose, and its place in the ancient landscape of southern England.
After Stonehenge, we travel to the city of Bath, one of the most beautiful historic cities in Britain and a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
Bath is famous for its Roman Baths, elegant Georgian architecture, and its association with writers such as Jane Austen.
We will walk through the historic centre, see the Abbey, the Royal Crescent, and the famous streets built in the eighteenth century.
This is a long but very rewarding day, designed to give you a broad understanding of English history, from prehistoric times to the modern monarchy.
At the end of the tour we return to London, or finish at Southampton depending on your travel plans.
