Full Description
This private layover tour is designed for travellers who have several hours between flights and would like to see one of England’s most important historic sites instead of waiting at the airport.
After meeting at Heathrow Airport, we drive to Windsor, located only about twenty minutes away, where we visit Windsor Castle, a royal residence that has been home to British monarchs for nearly one thousand years.
Originally built shortly after the Norman Conquest, the castle developed from a medieval fortress into a magnificent royal palace. Inside the State Apartments we explore richly decorated rooms filled with paintings, armour, and royal treasures that reflect the changing style and ambitions of successive kings and queens.
We also visit Queen Mary’s Dolls’ House, one of the most remarkable miniature palaces ever created, and St George’s Chapel, a masterpiece of Gothic architecture and the spiritual home of the Order of the Garter. The chapel is also the burial place of many monarchs and the location of recent royal ceremonies.
During the visit, the tour follows the history of Windsor from the reign of William the Conqueror through the Tudor period and into the modern monarchy, showing how each ruler transformed the castle according to the needs and style of their time.
Depending on your schedule, there may also be time to walk through Windsor town or enjoy a traditional English meal in a historic pub before returning to the airport or continuing to your next destination.
This tour is ideal for travellers who want to turn a layover into a memorable experience of English history and culture.
